THE OFFLIMITS AMERICAN BASKETBALL TRAINING METHODOLOGY
The Basketball Offlimits Training Methodology is the result of more than 30 years of experience organizing sports programs for young athletes, combined with the principles of American basketball development, modern teaching approaches and international coaching experience.
Throughout these years, one principle has always guided the way we work: sport should serve the development of young people — never the other way around. We believe basketball can be a powerful educational environment where young athletes develop not only as players, but also as confident, responsible and independent individuals.
Our player-centered methodology places each athlete at the heart of the learning process. Training is designed to respect individual developmental stages, learning rhythms and needs, while helping players improve their technical skills, decision-making, Basketball IQ, confidence and understanding of the game.
Rather than focusing exclusively on the repetition of technical skills, we encourage players to understand the game, solve problems and make better decisions in real playing situations, progressively connecting individual skill development with effective game performance.
Player-Centered Learning
Players are the true protagonists of the learning process. Training sessions are designed to respect each player’s developmental stage, learning pace and individual needs. Our objective is not only to improve basketball performance, but also to develop confidence, autonomy, responsibility and a lifelong passion for learning and improvement.
Analytical, Global and Mixed Teaching Approaches
Our coaches combine analytical, global and mixed teaching approaches according to the objectives of each learning situation and the developmental needs of the players. Analytical methods are used to introduce or refine specific motor skills through progressive technical exercises. Global approaches place players in realistic game situations, where perception, decision-making and understanding of the game become essential. Throughout the training process, both approaches are combined to maximize learning and transfer to real game situations.
Basketball Decision-Making and Basketball IQ
Basketball is a game of constant decision-making. Players are regularly exposed to situations that challenge them to read the game, analyze information, identify possible solutions and make effective decisions in real playing situations. Through this process, players develop stronger Basketball IQ, greater confidence in their decision-making and a deeper understanding of offensive and defensive concepts.
The Spectrum of Teaching Styles
The Basketball Offlimits Training Methodology incorporates principles from the Spectrum of Teaching Styles developed by Muska Mosston. Coaches combine reproduction-based teaching styles, where players learn through demonstration, observation and guided practice, with discovery-based approaches that encourage creativity, problem-solving and independent thinking. This balance allows coaches to select the most appropriate teaching approach for each learning situation while creating an active environment where coach-player interaction plays a fundamental role in development.
Skill Development and Game Transfer
Technical development is an essential component of our methodology. Players work on ball handling, passing, footwork, shooting, finishing and defensive fundamentals through structured progressions adapted to their developmental stage and skill level.
However, skill development is never viewed as an isolated process. Technical concepts are progressively connected to real game situations, helping players understand when, where and how to apply their skills and maximizing transfer from training to the game.
Competition-Based Learning
Competition is an important learning tool within our methodology. Players participate in small-sided games, situational drills and progressive competitive formats that encourage them to apply their skills, make decisions and solve problems in realistic game situations.
Competition is approached not simply as a way to win or lose, but as an opportunity to learn, improve and grow. These experiences help players develop confidence, resilience, decision-making and respect for teammates and opponents, while learning how to respond positively to both success and adversity.
Physical Performance and Injury Prevention
Basketball development depends on much more than technical ability alone. Our methodology integrates age-appropriate physical preparation focused on athletic development, movement quality and reducing injury risk.
Players learn to understand the importance of strength, mobility, coordination, balance and efficient movement as part of their development, always respecting their age, developmental stage and individual needs. Our objective is to help young athletes build healthy training habits and understand physical preparation as an important part of their long-term development and well-being.

EXPERIENCE SUMMER ON THE COSTA BRAVA, CATALONIA
Basketball Offlimits offers much more than high-level basketball training. During the summer, players discover Peralada, the Costa Brava and Catalonia, where world-class sport, rich cultural heritage, Mediterranean landscapes and an exceptional Mediterranean lifestyle come together to create an unforgettable international experience.
Every day combines basketball development, international friendships and the opportunity to experience one of Europe’s most inspiring Mediterranean destinations, creating memories that last far beyond the basketball court.
DISCOVER THE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF CATALONIA
Catalonia is internationally recognized for its extraordinary artistic, cultural and historical heritage. From Peralada and the Empordà, players find themselves surrounded by centuries of history and a landscape deeply connected to the life and work of Salvador Dalí, one of Catalonia’s most universal artists and one of the greatest figures of Surrealism. Nearby Figueres, Dalí’s birthplace, is home to the world-famous Dalí Theatre-Museum, conceived and designed by the artist himself and considered the world’s largest surrealist object. It houses the most extensive collection of Dalí’s work, while the landscapes, light and Mediterranean character of the Costa Brava and Empordà became an enduring source of inspiration throughout his life and artistic career.
The region also offers an extraordinary journey through Mediterranean and European history. Peralada Castle reflects the area’s rich historical heritage, while Empúries preserves the exceptional remains of an ancient Greek settlement and a Roman city overlooking the Mediterranean, providing a unique connection with the civilizations that helped shape Mediterranean culture. Further north, in Portbou, the Walter Benjamin Memorial, created by artist Dani Karavan, remembers the German-Jewish philosopher and evokes themes of exile, memory and European history.
The landscape itself is also part of Catalonia’s cultural identity. Rising above the horizon, the Canigó, in the Eastern Pyrenees, is one of the great symbols of Catalan identity and inspired Jacint Verdaguer’s celebrated epic poem Canigó. Its presence creates a remarkable connection between the Mediterranean landscapes of the Empordà and the Pyrenees, reinforcing the unique geographical and cultural character of this part of Catalonia.
Catalonia has inspired generations through internationally acclaimed artists and creators including Antoni Gaudí, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Antoni Tàpies and Joan Brossa, as well as the legendary cellist and composer Pau Casals, one of the country’s greatest cultural ambassadors. Their legacy continues to make Catalonia one of Europe’s leading centres of artistic creativity, cultural heritage and historical memory.
CATALONIA: A EUROPEAN BASKETBALL POWERHOUSE
Catalonia is widely regarded as one of Europe’s great basketball countries. Its clubs, coaches and player development programs have helped shape generations of players who have competed at the highest national and international levels.
Catalan basketball has produced NBA champions Pau Gasol and Marc Gasol, WNBA champion Anna Cruz, and international basketball legends such as Juan Carlos Navarro, Ricky Rubio and Rudy Fernández. Their careers have inspired generations of players throughout Europe and around the world.
Catalonia has also produced coaches who have reached the highest levels of international basketball. Badalona-born Jordi Fernández is Head Coach of the Brooklyn Nets and the first Catalan head coach in NBA history. His journey from Badalona to the NBA represents another remarkable example of Catalonia’s basketball tradition and its growing influence on the global game.
This basketball tradition is particularly strong across Catalonia. Historic clubs such as Club Joventut Badalona and FC Barcelona have played a fundamental role in the development of European basketball, while Bàsquet Girona, founded by Marc Gasol, represents a new generation of ambitious basketball projects rooted in player development and the local community. Today, Marc Gasol serves as President of Bàsquet Girona, with Pau Gasol as Vice President, further connecting the legacy of two NBA champions with the future of basketball in the country.
At Basketball Offlimits, players have the opportunity to train in a basketball environment shaped by this extraordinary tradition. Experiencing Catalonia means discovering one of Europe’s true homes of basketball, where passion, player development and sporting excellence continue to shape the future of the game.
BARCELONA: HOME OF THE LEGENDARY 1992 OLYMPIC DREAM TEAM
Barcelona hosted the 1992 Olympic Games, one of the most iconic sporting events in modern history. For basketball fans, those Games marked the unforgettable appearance of the original USA Dream Team, widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball teams ever assembled.
Led by Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, the team also featured Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone, John Stockton, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin and Christian Laettner.
Their performances helped expand basketball’s global popularity and inspired millions of young players. Today, participants at Basketball Offlimits in Peralada train less than two hours from the city where one of the most important chapters in international basketball history was written.
Few destinations can offer young athletes the opportunity to experience a basketball environment so closely connected to this extraordinary sporting legacy. Barcelona’s Olympic heritage remains an important part of Catalonia’s basketball identity and continues to inspire new generations of players.
TRAIN WHERE BASKETBALL HISTORY MEETS THE FUTURE
Training in Peralada, on the Costa Brava, means experiencing basketball in one of Catalonia’s most inspiring sporting and cultural environments. Every Basketball Offlimits training session combines the Basketball Offlimits Training Methodology, high-level coaching and player development with the rich basketball tradition and cultural heritage of Catalonia.
This summer, players have the opportunity to elevate their game, build international friendships and experience the unique surroundings of Peralada and the Costa Brava, where basketball tradition, cultural heritage, Mediterranean landscapes and lifestyle come together to inspire a new generation of players.
